Kiss Daniel’s rise to stardom was short and quick

The Afro Pop singer, who now goes by the name Kizz Daniel, has earned a spot as one of Nigeria top musicians.

He has only been in the professional music business for five years and already has several number-one hit songs under his belt.

Kiss Daniel loved singing from a young age, but he only pursued his music full-time after completing his university studies.

His late father supported his dream of becoming a singer but encouraged him to complete his education.

“He’s a great man; he always wanted to support you… [He would say], ‘just pursue your dream. I won’t force you to do anything but just take education seriously’,” Kiss Daniel told Factory78 TV in an interview.

When the time came for Kiss Daniel to record his very first song, his father, who was a painter and lecturer, gave him ₦100 000.

“My music journey has not been a smooth one, it has always been this up and down. It started when I was really young, around 7, 8 or 9. I started scribbling down lyrics and then my dad noticed that I do that a lot… From 13, 14, I could actually sing,” he said about how his talent developed.

Kiss Daniel was born on May 1, 1994. He grew up in Abeokuta, Ogun state. The 25-year-old has achieved more in his short career than most achieve in their lifetime.

Kiss Daniel’s real name is Oluwatobiloba Daniel Anidugb. He said in interviews that a girl gave him his stage name Kiss Daniel. She kept calling him “kiss” and the name stuck. He changed his stage name in May 2018 after leaving record label, G-Worldwide Entertainment. According to some reports, the label legally owned the famous moniker, “Kiss Daniel”, and to avoid a copyright lawsuit he changed his name on all social media platforms to Kizz Daniel, including Instagram where he now uses the username, @iamkizzdaniel. Some reports suggested he only changed the name for rebranding purposes after saying goodbye to his old label.

Kiss Daniel’s professional music career kicked-off while he was a student at the Federal University of Agriculture. He was studying Water Resources Management and Agrometeorology at the time. The Afro Pop singer eventually completed his degree in 2013 and gave his music career his full attention. Kiss Daniel’s 2014 single, Woju, was an instant hit. The song became one of Nigeria’s biggest tracks of the year and was nominated for “Hottest Single Of The Year” and the Nigeria Entertainment Awards.

Kiss Daniel released his debut album, New Era, in May 2016. The offering won The Headies award for “Album of the Year”. After leaving G-Worldwide Entertainment in 2017, Kiss started his own record label, Fly Boy Inc. He released his second album, No Bad Songz, under his new label in late 2018.

Several of Kiss Daniel’s songs have become hits in many parts of Africa. The remix for his hit single, Woju, featured Davido and Tiwa Savage. Kiss Daniel also worked with American DJ Diplo on Iwek – one of the tracks on his second studio album. Nasty C joined Kiss Daniel on Ghetto while Diamond Platnumz featured on Tere.

Some of Kiss Daniel’s other hit songs include Yeba, Laye, 4Dayz, Sofa, No Days, Good Time, Kiss Me and For You featuring Wizkid.

Kiss Daniel’s songs with Davido have been a huge success. Their 2018 collaboration, One Ticket, trended in Nigeria shortly after its release. The music video for the song has been watched over 25 million times since its release on YouTube in November 2018.

Kiss Daniel and Davido’s first collaboration on the Woju remix was also a big hit. The track history when the original and remix featured on MTV Base’s Official Naija Top 10 at number one and two respectively.

Kiss Daniel’s 2016 single, Mama, remains one of his biggest hits to date.  The song was produced by Young John. The video has been watched more than 27 million times on YouTube.

Kiss Daniel’s net worth is allegedly between $1 million (₦360 million) and $2.1 million (₦756 million).  He reportedly charges over ₦1 million per show.

Kiss Daniel is known for his love of luxury cars. He has owned a Mercedes Benz and Bentley.  The singer made headlines in 2018 when he bought his brother his own set of wheels – a Dodge Challenger!

Kiss Daniel bought his second home in 2018. He showed off the mansion on Instagram.

“All thanks to GOD. Bought my second house in Lagos from @thehavenhomes just 4years into the business, I want to say a huge thank you to my FANS. I pray we all succeed just the right way,” he wrote on Instagram.
